This first year of the [[Hugos]] there was no shortlist of nominees, nor voting by the members of the convention.  The winner was chosen by the [[Philcon II]] [[committee]].

This category was awarded only in 1953, first year of the [[Hugos]], at [[Philcon II]] and was never repeated, though essentially the same category was repeated in 1956 under a different name, the [[1956 Best Feature Writer Hugo]].
