(Architecture + ecology?; Soleri) - A city designed in ecological terms, to provide a suitable environment for its inhabitants' work and leisure activities. [[Kara Dalkey]] helped Paolo Soleri build his first experimental arcology in the Southwest desert -- and found out one night what to do AFTER you've picked up a skunk by the tail. [[Niven]] and [[Pournelle]]'s Oath of Fealty deals with what life might be like in an arcology. In retrospect, multi-generation Slower-Than-Light interstellar ships (like that in [[Heinlein]]'s Orphans of the Sky) may also be seen as arcologies.
