'''Sigvard Östlund''', a [[Stockholm]] [[fan]], was a major [[collector]] of [[British]] and [[U.S.]] [[sf]] even before [[Swedish]] [[fandom]] existed. Probably as early as 1951, he became the third member of the Stockholm [[club]] [[Futura]], having learned of its existence from fans abroad who had heard of it from one of its founders. 

Östlund attended [[Festivention]], a [[convention]] in [[London]] in 1951, and in 1952 was elected to the [[committee]] that judged the [[International Fantasy Award]]. He wrote what may well have been the first presentation of Swedish fandom in any foreign [[fanzine]]; his essay "Science Fiction in Sweden" was published in [[Ron Smith]]'s [[fanzine]] ''[[Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser]]'' 12, November 1955. 

As far as is known, Östlund [[gafiated]] after the demise of club Futura. In [[mundane]] life, he was an agency director with the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority.
