Albany, New York state, is the home of the Albany State SF Society, Capital District Science Fiction Federation and Latham-Albany-Schenectady-Troy Science Fiction Association.
It hosted LASTCon and Novacon 9 West and now hosts Albacon. It has the Flights of Fantasy bookstore.
Nearby Troy is the seat of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where a number of fans have matriculated, home to TANSTAAFL, RSFA and Genericon.
