Ian Gunn
(June 1, 1958 – November 8, 1998)
Ian Peter Gunn sometimes called Gunny, was a UK-born Australian fan and fan artist. He won the 1999 Best Fan Artist Hugo, the first Best Fan Artist Hugo won by an Australian. (He was nominated for the Best Fan Artist Hugo in 1996–98.)
Ian founders a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan club in 1981. He was president of the Melbourne Science Fiction Club for 1989/90, 1990/91 and 1991/92. He co-chaired Basicon 1 in 1995 and Basicon 2 in 1997.
Winner of Ditmar Award for Best Fan Artist in 1989, 1990, and 1991; and Ditmar Award for Best Fan Writer in 1990. Winner, with Karen Pender-Gunn of FFANZ in 1993 and GUFF in 1995. Winner of the Ditmar Award for Best Fan Artist in 1995. Winner in 1996 of ASFMAs for Best Media Writer and Best Media Artist, Ditmar Awards for Best Non-Professional/Fan Writer, Best Non-Professional/Fan Artist and Best Short Fiction, and FAAn Award for Best Fan Artist. Winner of Ditmar Award for Best Fan Artist in 1997 and 1999.
The Ian Gunn Memorial Award was named in his honor.
He was the partner of Karen Pender-Gunn from 1988 until his death. Ian was born in Nottingham, England, and immigrated to Australia as a child.
