Howard Bruce Franklin, known as H. Bruce Franklin, was an American cultural historian who authored or edited several books on a range of subjects.

His award-winning books and teaching on SF played a major role in establishing the academic study of the genre.

In the 1980s he was the John Cotton Dana Professor of English and American Studies at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. He first attained prominence as a Melville scholar and has served as president of the Melville Society.
