Most conventions offer tables to bids, clubs, conventions and other groups to use for purposes of publicity.

Bid tables are one type of fan table, where members of a bid committee provide information, try to persuade fans that they should vote for the bid during site selection, and sell pre-supporting memberships.

Table holders are usually not allowed to sell products, but can typically sell memberships, take donations and pass out handouts. Sometimes “donations” net the donor a premium, such as a publication, badge, ribbon or tchotchke; these are generally considered within the spirit of the thing.

Fan tables are usually provided for free. The tables tend to be located in the main hallways of the hotel, outside the function spaces. Larger cons, which take place in convention centers, often situate the tables in the Huckster Room or Exhibits space; some cons charge a fee for these tables.
