Vaughn Bode

(July 22, 1941, Utica, New York — July 18, 1975, San Francisco, California)

Vaughn Frederick Bodé was an underground cartoonist and illustrator known for his character Cheech Wizard and his artwork depicting voluptuous women. His fan art illustrated many fanzines.

A friend of animator Ralph Bakshi, Bode has been credited as an influence on the films Wizards and The Lord of the Rings. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame for comics artists in 2006. He died when he accidentally asphyxiated himself during a self-bondage session.
