Stephen Hickman

(b. 1949)

Stephen Forrest Hickman (born in Washington, D.C.) is an award-winning artist, illustrator, and author. He attended high school in Alexandria, Virginia, and the art school of the Richmond Professional Institute/Virginia Commonwealth University. He taught himself anatomy and painting.

He is best known for his work in SF and fantasy, with 300+ book and magazine covers to his credit, including illustrating Larry Niven's “Man-Kzin Wars” novels. His most widely circulated effort is a series of SF postage stamps done for the U. S. Postal Service. (His stamp art was nominated for the 1994 Best original Artwork Hugo.)

Hickman has tried his hand at writing and illustrating his own work. His novel, The Lemurian Stone, was published in 1988.
