Ratatosk

Ratatosk was a biweekly "news and gossip-mongering zine" edited by Bruce Pelz beginning in November, 1964 and ending after forty-seven issues in May, 1967. It was very fannish in its presentations of news and it boosted fan funds and worldcons. Like Starspinkle, it was always a two-page, single-sheet fanzine which kept the price and copied the general format. The compact format still permitted bits of fan art from artists including ATom, Bill Rotsler, Jim Cawthorn, Eddie Jones, Roy G. Krenkel, and Bruce's then-wife Dian Pelz whose humorous illos often related to one of the news stories in the issue.

Pelz said that the zine's name was taken from the name of the squirrel from Norse mythology that ran up and down Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life, carrying rumors from the eagle at the top and the dragon at the bottom, and passing them on to other various creatures that resided on the tree. Ratatosk superseded Starspinkle which had been edited by Ron Ellik, who had the fan nickname of "The Squirrel".

Pelz published a fanzine compilation of all the issues in 1992.
