Later, "old-timers" were fans who were acquainted with fandom in the Fantasy Magazine days. Later still Art Rapp chuckled at "He's an old-timer; he remembers the Shaver Mystery" till he realized that by Roscoe anybody who remembered the Shaver Mystery now was an old-timer. The word is not exactly synonymous with "veteran"; fairly recent comers sometimes call themselves old-timers, as compared with those of less than a year's standing.
