Hi, JoVan, You made a bunch of changes to ConFusion, adding nonbreaking spaces to the con names, which broke all the links to the individual con pages.  Since you didn’t fix those, I reversed it. Sorry. 😕 The links just seem more important than having the con order in the leftmost column (in fact, the con’s founders would hate to see that there at all and Ro Nagey may well haunt me for adding it). If you feel strongly about the nonbreaking spaces, it probably would work best to first rename the 47 individual con pages, which will create redirects so the links don’t break while you work on it. Meanwhile, the guests you added for the 2022 con were those of the January 2020 con, which was held, not those of the 2021 con that are rolling over, but which weren’t announced before they pulled the plug. Jo: Two points.  First, I agree that cancelled cons have been cancelled, but Bristolcon explicitly said on their website that they'd postponed to 2021. Unless it would cause material confusion (e.g., a con declares that they had dozens of GoHs), I think we want to follow what they announce. (Personally, I don't see a difference between postponing and holding a the same convention later with the same GoHs which is what they're doing as far as I can tell.)  The key point is to try to be clear, consistant and correct on Fancy while being respectful of local f/o/i/b/l/e/s/ custom.

Second, our policy is that we retain a record of the cancelled/postponed/whatever con -- that's solid fan history -- including whatever detail we have (hotel, GoHs, TM, chair, theme).  People who were GoHs at a cancelled con have been so honored and that honor does not go away just because the con had to cancel.  They're listed as GoH with no footnote in the Recognition list on their page.  (It's different, of course, if the GoHship was retracted by the con!  Ugh.)  For a postponed con (same GoHs, a year later) I'd be inclined to just list the second year in the GoH's Recognition list.

My current gut feeling is that if the cancelled (postponed) con has the same name as what is actually scheduled for the following year, we note the cancellation details for the 2020 con in the 2021 con's page as well as on the con series' index page. If the 2021 has a different name, then we have a con page for the cancelled con using the name it would have had.

Same guests, committee, site = postponed. The fact that the con name incorporates a date that will change is irrelevant. Guests should link to the new name, it would make no sense to have 2 GoHships recorded. Cancelled cons where they lose their GoH slot should be shown in strikethrough. Agree about not making sense to list two GoHships in the person's Recognition list. "Cancelled cons where they lose their GoH slot should be shown in strikethrough." You mean on the con's index page.  Sure.  On the person's Recognition list? No -- they were honored by being chosen and that's enough for the listing.  If anyone really cares about the details, following that link will go to the con instance page which documents the con's cancellation/postponement.

Strikethru can be used to mark honour but not attendance. It applies to cancelled cons but also noshows due to illness, withdrawl etc. It could also apply to all those fanfund winners who didn't make the trip. John (talk) 21:40, 5 July 2020 (PDT)

It certainly could be, but please do not do so.  The honor is in being selected, not in the execution.  (Obviously if the honoree withdraws or is fired or something that directly implicates the honor, it may be appropriate to note it. Having the con fail or being unable to afford the time for a trip is disappointing to lots of people but does not diminish the honor.)  --Mlo (talk) 04:55, 6 July 2020 (PDT)-

Bristol-Con 2020 will never be held. Therefore, it has been cancelled. Bristol-Con 2021 will be held, but it is not Bristol-Con 2020. Mark told me a while back that the goal was to remove this information from the high-level con record, where it takes up too much room. It is stored on the individual con records. I suggest you have a conversation with him about it. --JoVan (talk) 07:50, 27 May 2020 (PDT)

Another way to add the spaces for this page only would be to use pipes:

Jo: Two points. First, I agree that cancelled cons have been cancelled, but Bristolcon explicitly said on their website that they'd postponed to 2021. Unless it would cause material confusion (e.g., a con declares that they had dozens of GoHs), I think we want to follow what they announce. The key point is to try to be clear, consistant and correct on Fancy while being respectful of local f/o/i/b/l/e/s/ custom.

Ugh.) If the 2021 has a different name, then we have a con page for the cancelled con using the name it would have had.

Norcon (Norway)[edit]

All the individual Norcon pages need series=Norcon (Norway), they currently point to the disambiguation page. John (talk) 12:42, 10 May 2020 (PDT)

Thanks for catching that! Those have all been sorted now. --JoVan (talk) 16:29, 10 May 2020 (PDT)

Astounding Award[edit]

Can you leave the Campbell award in the Hugos please. John (talk) 15:44, 11 May 2020 (PDT)

Are you going to be going back and adding it in to all of the past Hugo records? --JoVan (talk) 15:46, 11 May 2020 (PDT)

Its in most, a quick look shows. Ask Mark what he wants done. John (talk) 15:47, 11 May 2020 (PDT)

It's missing from all of the most recent Hugo years you created. Feel free to add it in. --JoVan (talk) 15:53, 11 May 2020 (PDT)

Wikis are dreadful places for ruffling feathers. Can we just assume its the text that matters, and changes are made without blame. We are not wikipedia with its petty arguments John (talk) 22:44, 13 May 2020 (PDT)

What a great idea. A good place to start would be stop interfering with and bullying other contributors. You did this to me on the old Fancy, and you've done it to me here. You insisted on barging in while I was working on the Hugo Awards and creating a bunch of empty pages ahead of me, which you've still never fixed. You've repeatedly kept barging in and making changes on things while I was still working on them. Today I was working on the Beneluxcon page and you barged in and interfered there. Please, just STOP. --JoVan (talk) 23:08, 13 May 2020 (PDT)

At the moment as Site Administrator I'm having to review your many contributions as I can't be sure yet that you aren't doing things detrimental to the site, like removing Hugo details or adding links in the wrong format. So when I see a mistake I need to correct it, as I've no idea what your future plans are. I'm happy for my mistakes to be corrected or flagged as review is important part of how this site works. John (talk)

This is why User Talk pages exist (and incidentally, protocal is that you don't delete messages from your User page). Courtesy is that you ask questions instead of just barging in high-handedly -- and that you don't trample on someone else's feet when they are doing edits.

You were doing this to me on the previous Fancy site for more than a year. I believe that you genuinely don't understand why this behaviour is problematic. It's not my job to teach you common courtesy, and I doubt that I would have any success at it, anyway. Consider having a discussion with mlo to see if that offers you some enlightenment.

If you keep doing this, I will just stop contributing. Maybe you will be fine with that, despite the significant amount of content I've added to the site over the last year and a half. I've got a uni degree in Computer Science and Engineering, and I honestly don't appreciate being treated as though I'm stupid (which is what you are doing, whether or not you realise it). If you'd like me to stick around, maybe see if you can figure out how to treat me like an an intelligent adult. This sort of behaviour is exactly why I don't contribute to Wikipedia. I'm involved in several other volunteer endeavours, and there's no reason for me to spend time on one where I'm treated with disrespect. --JoVan (talk) 00:34, 14 May 2020 (PDT)
