The 1948 Worldcon, the first in Canada, Torcon was held July 3–5 1948, at the RAI Purdy Studios in Toronto, Canada. GoH: Robert Bloch. FGoH: Bob Tucker. Chaired by Ned McKeown.

It was selected at Philcon defeating a bid from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it was sponsored by the Derelicts (the Toronto Science Fiction Society), and it was the first Worldcon to be held outside the United States.

The complete talks at Torcon were wire recorded and later printed in the Torcon Report. Its progress reports were issued as the fanzine, Torque, edited by Beak Taylor.

Other committee members: Bill Grant.

The hastily contrived bid for Toronto in 1948 was put together during Philcon, where the vote was held. The competition was a forgotten Milwaukee in 1948 bid. See 1948 Worldcon Site Selection.

The 1949 Worldcon Site Selection was held there.

It was followed by Torcon II and Torcon 3.
