Well someone finally created a science fiction themed Mardi Gras krewe.

The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus rolled out for their initial outing on March 6th 2011. 300 to 400 individuals hit the streets of New Orleans in 2011 with a mission of bringing SF to yet another venue. Their after parade party (Ball) includes a costume contest in addition to the usual drinks and dancing.

When the krewe was asked as to the results of their second year's outing on February 18, 2012 I received the following. ...

Such plans had been proposed since the early 1970s by several individuals and groups. Most notably was the proposed truck float that Jim Mule, Jan Luke, and others associated with the long running Vul-Con Star Trek / Media and Science Fiction Convention were trying to organize with-in one of the established krewes.
