Robert Duncan-Enzmann, aka Doc E, a Boston-area scientist and engineer, was involved for decades in advanced spaceflight design. His work inspired many sf artists and writers and included two articles in Analog in 1974. He also wrote fiction, published in the Enzmann Chronicles in 2020.
In 1964, he proposed a manned interstellar spacecraft that would be fueled by a three million ton ball of frozen deuterium that would be contained in a cylindrical section behind that ball with the crew quarters. The Enzmann starship was detailed in the October, 1973 issue of Analog, with a cover by space artist Rick Sternbach.
