The New Orleans region has always had a diverse collection of proto-fen, fen, social groups and full blown Organized Fandom(s). Many times there have been two, three, or more groups co-existing in the city at a given time that may not even be aware of each other. At other times an outsider might reasonably think that he had stumbled upon a classic Doc Smith "battle royal".

The Shadows of New Orleans fandom are the unsung masses that have come and gone (some just keep returning). They are fen that have done the less noted jobs from cranking the mimeo, manning convention tables, and lugging the Bheer to the ice filled bathtub of many a con suite or room party. Without them much of what has made local fandom special would not have happened. Their lot was to always be there when things needed to be done.
