Born in Virginia and raised near Pittsburgh, Wood was a Minneapolis fan who was a member of Minnstf and founded Minneapa (for which he published Radiant Vectors) in 1972. He was OE until his death. He was a member of the Michigan State University Tolkien Fellowship, Slanapa, Apaloosa and TAPS. He also went to many cons, including Minicon, Boskone and Worldcon.

He was a diabetic, and died of insulin shock.
