Loscon 49 was a convention held November 24–26, 2023, at the LAX Marriott in Los Angeles, CA. The GoHs were Peter S. Beagle, Echo Chernik, and Elayne Pelz.
Due to the collapse and cancellation of Westercon 75 in Anaheim, Loscon 49 was also the 2023 Westercon and conducted site selection for the 2025 Westercon, which failed to elicit any bids. (See 2025 Westercon Site Selection for details.)
Westercon 75[edit]
Westercon 75 was a convention scheduled to be held June 30–July 3, 2023, at the Clarion Hotel Anaheim Resort in Anaheim, CA. The GoHs were scheduled to be Gail Carriger and Kevin Grazier. It was chaired by Arlene Busby and Michelle Weisblat-Dane.
On May 9, 2023, the committee announced that it was cancelling the Anaheim convention due to "a cascade of circumstances." Under these circumstances, Westercon’s management is the responsibility of LASFS. Loscon 49 carried out the official functions of Westercon for 2023.
The selection of Westercon 75 was a mess, complicated by Covid-19 and a malaise affecting Westercon in general. See 2023 Westercon Site Selection for details.
