An American SF writer who is particularly known for her novel The Snow Queen. She has been writing since first publishing in Orbit in 1974. She has been married twice, to sf writer Vernor Vinge, and later to SF editor Jim Frenkel. They live in Madison, WI. She was severely injured in a auto accident in 2002 which left her unable to write for about five years.
