Fan writing

Fan writing is best described as writing done for love not money which is about SF, fandom or related subjects.

Fan writing is not necessarily amateurish writing nor is it second-rate pro writing. "Fan writing" is also not a synonym for fan fiction -- nearly all fan writing is non-fiction and is more often in the form of an essay than anything else. It can be a personal essay, a trip report, an article on a topic, or even a review.

Just as pros can also be fans, pro writers can also do fan writing.

Great fan writers have included people like Bob Tucker, Ted White, Harry Warner, Jr., Richard E. Geis, Terry Carr, Bob Shaw, Susan Wood, Mike Glyer, Dave LangfordFrederik Pohl, Claire Brialey, and Walt Willis.
