Disclave 31 was held May 22-25, 1987 (Memorial Day weekend) at the New Carrollton Sheraton in New Carrollton, MD. The GoH was Gene Wolfe, Barclay Shaw was Art GoH, and WSFA founder Chick Derry was Fan GoH.
Joe Mayhew was chairman. The Consuite moved down into the vile, grimy exhibition center ("the bunker"), because it would be out of the rain and there would actually be places to sit down. Evan G. Phillips got involved with furnishing and decorating the first Discave. (A term originating in a misspelled sign.) 1350 fen were registered for it.
