Boris Vallejo

(1941 --)

Artist Boris Vallejo was born in Lima, Peru and immigrated to the United States in 1964. He frequently works with his wife, Julie Bell, a painter and model. Vallejo works almost exclusively in the SF/fantasy genre. His paintings have graced the covers of dozens of SF and fantasy paperbacks and hardbacks and are also featured in a series of calendars.

Subjects of his paintings are typically well-muscled male and female barbarians engaged in battle. Some of his male figures were modeled by Vallejo himself, and many of his later female characters were modeled by his wife.

The Fantastic Art of Boris Vallejo was published in 1978 , with text by Lester del Rey. Beginning in the 1980s, Vallejo began to concentrate on erotic art.
