Fan artist Bill Kunkel's artwork consisted of satirical cartoons. He was married to fellow fan Charlene Kunkel and later Laurie Yates-Kunkel. He was a contributor to Trap Door and other fanzines.

He also co-founded the first magazine devoted to video and computer games, Electronic Games. Kunkel worked as a game designer, a comic book writer, and professional cartoonist. The Kunkel Awards for video game journalism are named after him.
