(1859 -- 1930)

A late 19th and early 20th century writer of science fiction in the Professor Challenger stories. Today, however, his fame principally derives from his claim of authorship of Dr. John H. Watson's reports of the life and work of Sherlock Holmes.

Other genre stories by Doyle included "The Horror of the Heights," "The Leather Funnel," "The New Catacomb," "The Case of Lady Sannox," "The Terror of Blue John Gap,"and "The Brazilian Cat." These and other tales of science fiction/fantasy/horror were collected in Tales of Terror and Mystery by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, published by Doubleday in 1977.

The Best Science Fiction of Arthur Conan Doyle, edited by Charles G. Waugh and Martin H. Greenberg, was published in 1981 by Southern Illinois University Press. Fourteen of Doyle's SF stories are included in this collection.

The Professor Challenger Society promote his work.
