Anne Rice (née Howard Allen Frances O'Brien) was an American author of gothic fiction and erotica. She is best known for her popular and influential series of novels, The Vampire Chronicles, revolving around the central character of the vampire Lestat. Books from The Vampire Chronicles were the subject of two film adaptations, in 1994 and in 2002.

She also used the pennames of Anne Rampling and A. N. Roquelaine.

At one time, she studied with SF author Ray Nelson.
