Armed Forces Science Fiction. A club for fans in service, started by a bunch of unknowns; Gar Williamson, the BEM (President), Ron Vogt, Jack Jardine, Woody Ayres, and Bob Rhodes, plus civilian Larry Maddock. Jardine attended the Nolacon and some of the group made it to Chicago, where they distributed a "preview" issue of clubzine Confusion; there was no other known activity.

A little correction: Jack Jardine and Larry Maddock are one and the same. Maddock was the pen name under which Jack Jardine (Oct. 1931 - Apr. 2009) wrote science fiction, for all too brief a time. His best known works are the Agent of T.E.R.R.A. series of books for Ace Publishing. Jack Jardine spent the bulk of his adult life and career "researching" and writing about human sexuality and his work can be found in numerous "Men's Magazines" of the late 70's and 80's (i.e. Hustler, Cheri, etc.). Jardine himself was a long-time L.A. fan who not only attended many West Coast conventions, but shared the dais on panels with some of the biggest names in SF prodom. He attended his last convention, in a wheelchair, assisted by his daughter Sabra, after a debilitating stroke at the age of 70. His health continued to deteriorate until he succumbed to heart failure in April of 2009 -- Bill Mills

Club
This is a club page. Please extend it by adding information about when and where the club met, when and by whom it was founded, how long it was active, notable accomplishments, well-known members, clubzines, any conventions it ran, external links to the club's website, other club pages, etc.

When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the club existed. This is probably not going to represent the club's full lifetime, so please update it if you can!
