The West Country Science Fiction Group was founded in Autumn 1952 by George Whiting of Stroud in Gloucestershire, UK. It attracted members from Cheltenham and Gloucester including Eric Jones. The group published seven issues of a newsletter, Progress, between September 1952 and March 1953.

Whiting moved to Greece in early 1954 and handed the club over to Jones and the remaining members. Jones had concluded it was a doomed venture but decided to have another try and that led to the formation of the Cheltenham Group.

This is a club page. Please extend it by adding information about when and where the club met, when and by whom it was founded, how long it was active, notable accomplishments, well-known members, clubzines, any conventions it ran, external links to the club's website, other club pages, etc.

When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the club existed. This is probably not going to represent the club's full lifetime, so please update it if you can!
