Debbie Notkin has been a SF and fantasy acquisitions editor (Tor Books), a SF and fantasy bookstore owner (The Other Change of Hobbit, Berkeley, California), as well as a reviewer, essayist, and appreciator of the field.

She is active in helping run WisCon, the world's largest feminist science-fiction convention. She chaired Potlatch 4, WisCon 31, and WisCon 33. She is also the chair of the James Tiptree Award motherboard. She was one of the organizers of the failed Smofcon 2. She was a member of the Little Men.

She published the fanzine Kith, helped write the lyrics to The Mimeo Man, and created the APA Intercourse and was a member of APA-Q.

Notkin wrote the text for Women En Large: Images of Fat Nudes, and Familiar Men: A Book of Nudes.
