David Vickers Barrett is a British fan and writer. He was the editor of Vector, the critical journal of the British Science Fiction Association in 1985–89 (he wrote a longish reminiscence in the editorial of the last, "celebratory" issue). He also organized the Arthur C. Clarke Award, chairing the jury in 1993–95. He was on the committee of the Sou'Wester (Eastercon 1994). He published several short stories and reviewed SFF for the Independent, Times Literary Supplement, New Scientist, New Statesman, Fortean Times and others.

A sociologist of religion by profession, he has written widely on topics pertaining to new religious movements, or A Brief History of Secret Societies: The Hidden Powers of Clandestine Organizations and Elites from the Ancient World to the Present Day (2007).
