Susanna Mary Clarke is a British SF author best known for her first novel, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, that won the 2005 Best Novel Hugo. She began the novel in 1993 and worked on it during her spare time.
Two years later, she published a collection of her short stories, The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories (2006). Both her novel and her short stories are set in an England ruled by magic and written in the styles of 19th-Century writers. While her novel focused on the relationship of two men, the stories in the short story collection focused on the power women gain through magic.
Clarke is reported to be working on a sequel to Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
