Rafael Kayanan is a fan and professional artist who was introduced to fandom with Alan Light's The Comics Buyer's Guide and its list of fanzines. Many to which he contributed art, including No Sex.

Professionally, his art includes a stint as an illustrator for the Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark Broadway musical for director Julie Taymor, as well as illustrations and concept designs for Conan, Drizzt, John Carter of Mars, and film-based sketch cards for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. A martial artist, he also has done fight design choreography for NCI:Los Angeles.
