(1933 -- 2006)

Jerry Gwin Bails, the "father of comic fandom," laid the foundation for an ongoing comic book fandom by creating several fanzines and then heading the drive to establish the Academy of Comic-Book Fans and Collectors. Members of the first executive board of the Academy included such SF fans as Dick Lupoff, Jim Harmon, and Jon D. Swartz. Bails received a PhD in natural science and then began a long association with Wayne State University.

His most important contribution probably was his Who's Who of American Comic Books, published in four volumes during 1973 - 1976.

He was the founder and despot on CAPA-alpha, the comics APA until he gafiated in 1966.
