(August 24, 1947 – )

Jeff Wanshel was a young New York fan (active beginning at age 12) who was a member of the Fanoclasts and the N3F. He was a paid reader for Ace from the ages of 14-17. Despite claims to the contrary, he never tried to convince publisher A. A. Wyn that fans didn’t like sex in science-fiction, but did convince him that, although Don Wollheim didn’t like fantasy, Ace should publish The Lord of the Rings in paperback. He also pulled Le Guin’s Rocannnon’s World from the slush pile (his sloshing-ground) and “pounded the table” for her.

He's been an award-winning playwright since the 1970s and lives in California.
