Elizabeth Starr “Betty” Cummings, who used the pennames Elizabeth Starr and Elizabeth Sloan, was a pro who wrote for Timely Comics and the Sangor Studio as well as the pulps before moving into children's books, including fantasy works, bylined under her married name, Elizabeth Starr Hill.

The daughter of sf writers Gabrielle Wilson and Ray Cummings, then 14-year-old Betty attended the first Worldcon, Nycon in 1939, with her father. She had by that time sold a poem to Liberty magazine. Fifty years later, Forry Ackerman recalled having been impressed by her.
