ICON 4 was a convention held November 9-11, 1979 at the Coachman Inn in Iowa City, IA, and was also known as DisasterCon. Gene Wolfe was author GoH, Rusty Hevelin was GoH, and Moebius Theatre was GoH. Co-chairs were C. Kay Hinchliffe and Emily Epstein.

The informal slogan was, "Icon 4: marked down from 5!", as there had been a one-year hiatus and 1979 should have been the year for Icon 5. The aftermath from the hiatus also led to some of the at-con confusion which led to the nickname 'DisasterCon'.
