The TAFF administrators Johan Anglemark, Geri Sullivan & Michael Lowrey decided in October 2020 to delay the 2021 westbound TAFF race to 2022 due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Instead of a European TAFF delegate attending DisCon III in August 2021, the next race would start in autumn 2021 to send her to Chicon 8 in 2022.
The reasoning was "DisCon III likely will be one of the first large conventions after the pandemic […] having a TAFF race in the midst of the pandemic, without any physical conventions to attend [i]t would
be much more difficult to enthuse people and get them to vote and to donate." Another was "We don’t want to increase the inventory of TAFF delegates waiting to travel", with other fan fund delegates also queued.
